7th Grade Reflection

Standard

When I first walked in the door for supply collection I was so excited for 7th grade. There would be no more block periods and you could join team sports. I knew I would get more homework each night but I was ready.

I walked to my first class, athletics, honestly this is still my favorite class in the school day. In athletics the teachers vary what we do each day so you never know you could be doing, running stairs, sprinting, distance running, or playing games on the football field. Athletics can be hard but its still fun!

After athletics it was to maths, from 9:25am till 10:12am. Maths has never been my favorite class but I don’t mind it.

Next to English back downstairs in the seventh grade hallway. I’m impressed with this class; we set up blogs for our entire class and still managed to get other activities in, like writing poems and studying for the STAAR.

All the way up to the band hall for Jazz Band, I’m actually not really into playing an instrument like the trumpet but I still liked this class, we would occasionally go to the computer lab or have performances during the school day at elementary schools.

Lunch has been… Mixed… for me, I’ve never really joined a table group, but I do like the one I’m at right now.

After that back to the band hall, like I said I’ve never really been that interested in learning an instrument but I do like this class we never go to the computer lab but I guess that’s because we have a really big class.

Back downstairs for Texas History, ok honestly I really wasn’t expecting this class to have much in way of things to actually do but the information was spread out pretty far and we still have more parts of it to learn at the end of the year!
Science! OK maybe I’m not the best in this class but some parts are really exciting. For instance I enjoyed the bones and muscles part of it. I’ll be honest the cells and everything else didn’t really speak to me.
Wildcat Time, oh I love this class not only for the people but you get most of your homework out the way, and if your a person like me with a busy schedule that’s a very handy thing.

I wasn’t expecting seventh grade to be like this, there has been ups and downs rights and lefts but we got through it now were on the path to summer! I defiantly enjoyed seventh grade and ready for eighth I realize there is going to be more homework but it’s going to be just as much fun.

My Life

Standard

Yes, I do play video games; on the weekend I climb into bed and hook up my computer to the power cord. Ding dong goes my MacBook Air as I power it up. As my background comes into view I get blasted with clusters of applications and advertisements; I drag my mouse to the top of the screen through all the mess of colors and click file. This brings up a drop down menu of a bunch of useless stuff and the all important FORCE QUIT!
This is probably close to my favorite part of my computer. I don’t even know what I would do without it; if the application isn’t responding, force quit, if your to lazy to close the application, force quit, if you click the X multiple times and I doesn’t do anything, force quit!
Another vital part is of course the power button. On a Mac shaped like a line going half way through a semicircle. This power button is an emergency escape for when nothing will work. If your in full screen mode and the applications turns black on you what are you going to do you can’t get to force quit then. On my computer it’s fairly easy you hold the button down until the screen turns a darker black and wait until your computer gets a bit cooler. After that you hit the button again, once. Of course it will do the bing bong music it does when I turn it on but you can’t do anything about that. Once again you’ll be in you home screen with nothing to worry about.
Ever since I got my first computer I been appreciative of these tools, I don’t know what I would do without them; you would just sit staring at a screen for hours. If you play games on your computer like me you’re are defiantly going to need these 2 buttons! You’d be surprised at how easily applications crash on you when you least expect it.

When I was a child I absolutely loved to watch Peter Pan. Every single night I would sit in front of the TV staring at this movie, I wouldn’t stop to even look away from this childhood movie of mine.

Why did I love this movie you may ask? As a child I loved all the magic, fairies, and flying. This movie had them all in just an Hour and a half!  I would sit their in my pajamas staring at the screen, even single night I watched the full hour and a half. If you think that would get boring it didn’t to me! You Can Fly!

I loved that movie so much! I still watch it now sometimes just to bring my mind back to when I was a little kid that watched fairy movies. I still have it sitting somewhere around this house that know one else knows but me.

Edward Young “Those Who Build Under The Stars Build To Low”

Standard

“Those who build under the stars build to low.” Edward Young. I like this quote because it’s saying there’s more in the universe than you think there is, astronomers stare up at the stars all day yet they still don’t know what is past the milky way and planets most of the time. Even people try and figure out what is past the stars but you can barely even see the stars without a telescope. Some people give up trying to look at the stars but think about the people on the moon, they made it among the stars.

Edward Young created this quote and many others, although this one really speaks to me. Edward Young was an English poet who died in the late 1700’s. This man was best remembered for Night-thoughts. He later moved to Corpus Cristi, Texas to further his degrees that he started in Oxford. He later furthered his literally career and wrote poems for executions and specific people like Queen Anne. Night Thoughts was a poem he created after his friends death who conspicuously died just 3 months after Lady Elizabeth Young.

Challenge #2

Standard

Don’t get me wrong I am an outside person, I run around Lake Austin ever Saturday and Sunday morning. Although I love to relax inside sitting on my leather chair glued to my computed screen while playing video games on my computer.

Ok, no questions asked I love my computer, there are so many possibilities. When I’m home alone that is literally all I do. I let all my nerves out and completely loose my focus on the world around me, I’m completely in video game mode.

Now before I pour myself into my computer, I run, around Lake Austin 3-5 miles. Its such an amazing place, the huge lake just behind a clump of trees, the gravely path where you can hear the stomping of runners feet. Squirrels run across the landscape in a mad panic trying to escape their predators, dogs chasing them hoping for a mid-morning snack. The aroma of blossom trees scents the air.

There are 2 parts of my world- My “office” with the leather chair and computer and Lake Austin with squirrels and blossom trees, without these places where would I be in life?

Why mechanical pencils are good

Standard

You know those high tech, thin point mechanical pencils? We’ll they don’t cost a lot and the never snap like a normal No.2 pencil.

I recently purchased a bunch of mechanical in a huge pack, they where really cheap! Normal No.2 pencils in a pack cost about $12 and these were about $10. Would you rather pay $2 extra for a pencil that snaps and you have to sharpen.

Don’t you hate it when your beloved pencil snaps, there is nothing you can do about it, it’s just there in a heap on your desk. The mechanical pencils never snap, the lead may snap but atleast it’s not your entire pencil! If the lead does so happen to snap you have 30 whole pieces in one of those containers. One fragment of lead isn’t going to matter.

I hope I’ve convinced you that mechanical pencils are obviously better than No.2 pencils. It’s simple they don’t snap!

Why Recycling Bins Are Useless

Standard

When you have a crumpled bit of paper in your hand do you really think to throw it in the recycling bin. That’s what I thought, no. If you don’t why do you need them, recycling bins are useless.

My first reason is it’s just another thing to fill up your room or office. It just sits in the corner and takes up maybe a foot of space, and that’s a lot of space in an office sometimes.

My second reason is how many times are you going to use this piece of junk, the people that make these bins earn millions of people. Think about it… There only a piece of dryed plastic molded together.

Why not just use a regular trash can and loose a lot less money

The Mercants Village Part 2

Standard

David jumped for joy, this is what he’d been looking for.
“So, what do you want for them?” Questioned David
“I acquire the speckled frogs tail of the southeast magi pond” replied the merchant
“But… That’s all the way on the other side of the world” spoke David
“That is what I require” replied The Merchant

So David left for his journey…

He cut through trees and brush and after 3 hours he still had 70 miles to walk. There must be another way David thought to himself. Then it hit him, he could go back to the village and rent a horse and kart. So he sprinted back there and promised the merchant he would bring his horse back if he gave it to him. The merchant said as long as the golden charm is still around thou neck as soon as he returns.

So David was of on his journey…

Now that he had a horse, the journey was much quicker. The sharp razor like hooves sliced throw brush like it was paper.

After about an hour of riding a horse through rough terrains David finally found the pond in which the frog lived. There was only one of these frogs in the world so that makes the tail even rarer. David spotted a glimpse of the frog and yanked out his knife.

Finally David though very lightheadedly, the musty air of the pond was probably getting to him. He thrust his bare hand into the murky pond and felt a small tug of his index finger. David pulled his hand back out and a microscopic, spotted frog was dangling from it.

Although when David carefully pulled out his knife the litle creature squirmed and wriggled in his hand. He had to put the knife back in its sleath otherwise the frog would not stop squirming.

Next, David layed the frog down flat on the ground, it didn’t move and just layed still and stared at him. He slowly, very slowly pulled out the knife and the frog didn’t flinch. He must likely hadn’t seen the knife yet…

David knew he was going to have to be very carefull in getting this tail so he edged the knife along a few centimeters every half a minute. The frog still hadn’t noticed when the knife point was about an inch from him. So David figured this was a good as time as ever and sliced the tail of.

He was so proud of himself he had finally aqquired what the merchant wanted, he rode back to the town in peace and harmony singing to himself while his hand stayed tightly clamped around the tail. The tail was a strangle one, it had purple spall speckles on the sides and green swirls in the center. It was almost like a blue floral frog.

Then his eyes hit the little spot on the tail which was blue and realized he had been deceived, it was a blue floral frogs tail. He considered the merchant may not notice and carried on his journey just the same.

When he got to the village…

This isn’t the speckled frogs tail I aqquired. Pondered the merchant
Yes it is questioned David in a slighty scared voice.
Ohhh, yes your right sonny theirs no blue on it silly me I thought I saw some but my eyes must be deceiving me. Chuckled the merchant.
David sighed in relief, you had me scared for a second there sir. Replied David

It’s ok David everything will be fine…

The Mercants Village

Standard

No! Kayla said with certainty
Kayla this is important, stand aside spoke David angrily
Ok fine, but be careful it’s dangerous out there… Whispered Kayla
I will, I promise whispered David reassuringly

(David heads into the gloomy woods with Kayla still sitting quietly in their house, picture flashes back to David walking steadily among the trees)

Breathing slightly heavier now David makes his way to the grove. A small patch of gleaming sunlight shines through the trees onto a muddy looking rock. David lays down a towel of the rock and started to drift to sleep.

The next morning David wakes up to a forest full of lively animals from tiny squirrels to the biggest deer the world has known. As known David still has miles to walk before the entrance to the merchants village, but it’s all worth it to him.

Later on when he’s fully awake David continues his journey. Tramping through patches of mushrooms and long skinny weeds. David eventually started to smell a faint whiff of meat cooking, he knew this must be the village. Later on after cutting through more vines and brush David uncovers a cove in the middle of no where. Everyone’s roasting meat and pulling up vegetables.

David had found The Mercants Village…

He went up to the nearest person to him and gingerly asked them if there was and rare hepcot mushrooms here. The person replyed in a strangle language David couldn’t understand, of course it was the native laungage of the village. He pulled open his translater and unfolded the talk.

It turns out the native had given him directions to the nearest trade post that was a mile into the town, he didn’t know if they had the hepcot but it was worth a try.

David took refuge in one of the nearby abandoned cabins, it was quite cozy and couldn’t realize why it was abandoned. David woke up the next morning and walked his way a mile into town, sure enough he found the trading post.

It wasn’t any ordinary trade post it was lined with a thin layer of red silk and was made with the finest spruce wood. He wandered up to the front of the store and spoke to a man in Mage robes.

Do you happen to have any hepcot mushrooms at this stall? Asked David
We might, let me check the storage. Replied the merchant

Later on the Merchant came back with a handful, of hepcot mushrooms.
Your a lucky one David… Spoke the merchant
